CONGRATULATIONS to the PSHS Main Campus Teams PSHS-MC Peltier and the Coal Kids whose researches are finalists in the 2019 Spellman HV Clean Tech Competition, in the Resource Preservation Category, which will be held at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York City on July 16-17, 2019.  The two Teams are among the 10 teams selected for the finals in the Category from hundreds of teams from 40 countries. They will be exhibiting and presenting their research to the judges on July 17, 2019.

“The Clean Tech Competition is a unique, worldwide research and design challenge for pre-college youth. The program encourages scientific understanding of real-world issues and the integration of environmentally responsible energy sources. Each year, the Clean Tech Competition addresses an issue that is grounded in core technological competency areas and focuses on the next great engineering challenges. The competition is designed to foster a deeper understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) related concepts, recognize outstanding talent, and prepare the next generation of globally competitive innovators.  The Clean Tech Competition is a program of the Center for Science Teaching & Learning (CSTL).”

Team “PSHS-MC Peltier”, composed of Grade 11 students Louise Gabrielle N. Espiña, John Kloyd P. Araza, Maria Gabriela P. Gayon, and teacher-adviser, Adrian Augusto M. Sumalde, PSHS ’05,  will be presenting their research “Development of a Peltier-tile Based Thermoelectric Generator System With a Cuboidal Coolant Core”.

Team “Coal Kids”, composed of Bertrand Michael L. Diola, Sophia Francesa B. Pre, Caithleen Anne U. Ricaforte, and teacher-adviser Dawn T. Crisologo, PSHS ‘97, will be presenting their research “Feasibility of Circulating Fluidized Bed Coal Bottom Ash as Clay Soil Conditioner”.

In the 2017 Spellman Clean Tech Competition, the PSHS Team composed of Philippe Bungabong, Justin Opulencia and Maded Battara III, won 1^st Runner-Up for their research

“Development of an Integrated Online System for the Regulation of Household Electrivity Consumption”.

This year’s theme is “Toward a Greener Tomorrow”.  Due to the drastically increased number of competing teams world-wide,  CSTL decided to have 2 categories, Resource Preservation and Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change for the 2019 Competition.  There are 10 teams each per category.  The winners in each category stand to win $10,000.00.  Each finalist team is considered already a winner and will be given a $1,000.00 prize.
